Want Fillers to Last Longer? Just Add Botox.

SSA-Botox.jpgIf you love the smoothing, plumping, age-defying action of hyaluronic dermal fillers and would like to go longer between injections, you may have just gotten your wish.

According to a recent study published in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, injecting Botox into the same areas where fillers are used can reduce the degradation rate of the fillers by 42%. Additionally, the volume rate of the fillers used in conjunction with the Botox was 50% greater than fillers alone after three months. In effect, the Botox extended the life of the fillers with visible volume retention.

What does this mean for me?

If you love the look you get from facial fillers, speak with your cosmetic surgeon about prolonging their effects through the use of Botox. This combination treatment may help you to prolong the beautifying effects of your fillers and extend your time between office visits.

If you are new to this topic, hyaluronic fillers such as Restylane and Juvederm are cosmetic dermal fillers used to restore volume and fullness to the face where volume has been reduced through the aging process. Fillers are very popular for plumping up wrinkles, adding volume to the cheek area, enhancing thin lips, and improving the look of the nasolabial folds (the lines that develop between your cheeks and the corners of your mouth).

Botox, made from botulinum toxin, smooths wrinkles by temporarily “freezing” or weakening the underlying muscles that pull on the skin and create those unattractive lines. When used in conjunction with each other, fillers and botox can provide a long-lasting, minimally-invasive treatment to rejuvenate and refresh your appearance. It’s a wonderful option for those who wish to look more youthful but aren’t ready to consider a surgical alternative.
