Q&A: How Do Chemical Peels Affect Rosacea?

Posted by Southern Surgical Arts on Jun 28, 2011 9:12:00 AM
Question: How Do Chemical Peels Affect Rosacea?

Answer: People with Rosacea typically have very sensitive skin and a chemical peel can cause the skin and vessels to react and flare up more. Thus, causing more redness and sensitivity. I would recommend treating the skin with a good at home regimen and possibly treating with an IPL/fotofacial.

Beauty Enhancers: Botox and Other Procedures

Posted by Southern Surgical Arts on Jun 27, 2011 9:13:00 AM
We recently found a fabulous article titled Botox and the Beauty Premium: Can Taking 10 Years Off Your Face Add 10K to Your Salary? The author (and we recommend you read this blog in full) suggests that although Botox and Fillers can make you look younger, the long-term alternative is surgery  ( face lifts, brow lifts, eye lifts, etc.) for a 15 to 20 year difference.

At Southern Surgical Arts, we carry a full line of injectables and fillers to suit our patient's needs when surgery is not an option. But we do offer longer-lasting surgical techniques such as Laser resurfacing, fat transfer, physician grade chemical peels, and a Laser-assisted  Cosmetic Facelift that will give you a naturally youthful result and avoids the pulled, plastic look that you typically see with the Plastic Surgery facelift. "The face lifting technique that our practice provides uses the latest laser technology and expertise, training and skill to provide you with natural results, so that you will look refreshed, younger but not different," said Dr. Carey Nease.

So when the time comes and you look in the mirror and want to look a few (or many) years younger, Dr. Deal and Dr. Nease are here to help enhance your natural beauty through both surgical and non-surgical procedures.

Dysport Showing Its Superiority Over Botox?

Posted by Southern Surgical Arts on Jun 24, 2011 9:13:00 AM
There are always advantages and disadvantages to competing products. Dysport was approved in 2009 to provide temporary improvement in the appearance of moderate to severe glabellar lines. This was the first time Botox had a competing product. And now, there is a study that shows Dysport works better on crow's feet than Botox.

At Southern Surgical Arts, we offer both Botox and Dysport to our patients. With studies like this and better "challenger" marketing, Dysport is making some headway in the marketplace. "More and more of our patients are trying Dysport but many are still loyal to Botox," said Dr. Deal. "Botox has created brand loyalty through its marketing programs and that has been a powerful tool for Botox."

If you'd like to try Dysport in the crow's feet area, we suggest you take advantage of our summer special, which allows you to get one area of Dysport or Botox for $200. Call today for your appointment.

The Truth About Cosmetic Surgery Scars

Posted by Southern Surgical Arts on Jun 16, 2011 9:14:00 AM
At Southern Surgical Arts, the question of scarring is common. When you decide that you want cosmetic surgery to enhance your natural beauty, your goal should be to avoid as many scars as possible. Although with most surgical procedures, incision points are inevitable, but experienced surgeons who trained in the latest cosmetic surgery techniques know how to both meet your aesthetic goals but also minimize your scars.

Dr. Deal and Dr. Nease specialize in naturally youthful results, minimal, well-hidden scars and quick recovery. Dr. Nease pioneered the Laser Face Lift and for qualified candidates, the patient will have no incisions and very little scarring! "The Laser Face Lift was designed for the patient who is not ready for a traditional Face Lift but desires a more youthful and rejuvenated look." said Dr. Nease.''

One of our patients recently recorded a testimonial and said that she felt Dr. Nease understood her goals. Having a low tummy tuck scar was very important to her. She even said that he brought it up before she did, which proved to her that the end result is just as important to him as it was to her.

Dr. Nease and Dr. Deal recently had a patient who had a breast reduction and lift from another Plastic Surgeon. She presented herself to Southern Surgical Arts because she primarily hated her scar from the lift. The scar reached around under her armpit. She had to buy swimsuits that covered this very large and ugly scar. This technique for breast reduction and lifting is antiquated and does not meet the goals patients who, in this day and age have higher expectations. Additionally, she wanted a Tummy Tuck but was worried about the scars. "In most cases, our Tummy Tuck scars are very low and do not reach around the hips. We most often can keep the scar between the hip bones," said Dr. Deal. Scarring should be an important topic in your consultation with your Cosmetic Surgeon. Ask the doctor for pictures of the technique he plans on using for your procedure. The doctor should be able to show you his before and after picture gallery of the procedure you want to give you reassurance that he is an experienced surgeon with the latest training in cosmetic surgery. We invite you to review our extensive and diverse before and after gallery. Our surgeons are experienced and have your goals in mind, including minimal scarring.

Call to schedule your complimentary consultation at one of our locations serving both Chattanooga, Tennessee and the North Georgia area.

Q&A: Can Chemical Peels Help My Acne?

Posted by Southern Surgical Arts on Jun 5, 2011 9:08:00 AM
Question: Can chemical peels help my acne?

Answer:
1. The Jessner Peel can help remove acne scars, small wrinkles and pigmentation embedded within the skin’s surface, and leaves skin looking smooth and clear within a few days. One of the biggest benefits of the Jessner Peel is a rapid increase in collagen production; the peel is powerful enough to stimulate healthy skin cell production, and will help get rid of acne scars for the long-term.

2. BHA peels are ideal for light scarring and blemishes from acne, since they can buff away dead skin cells and brighten up the complexion. If you have acne-prone skin that is still breaking out occasionally, a Betahydroxy Acid peel may be the best choice for you.

3. Medium-strength peels are typically made with tricholoractic acid (TCA), an ingredient that provides deep exfoliation and sloughs away dead skin cells.

The Growth of Cosmetic Injectables

Posted by Southern Surgical Arts on May 17, 2011 9:15:00 AM
With the economy growing, the demand of cosmetic injectables will also grow. This is part of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery's (ASAPS) 2011 predictions. In just a few minutes, wrinkles and folds can be minimized.

Americans are seeking ways to make their lives easier. This is evident with all the quick and easy dinner recipe books sold each year. At Southern Surgical Arts, this trend rolls over to patients who want fast ways to look rejuvenated and refreshed without traditional surgical techniques. "Non-surgical and quick alternatives to surgery are often preferable to patients who want to look a few years younger and only have a few minutes to give," said Chad Deal, MD.

At Southern Surgical Arts, Dr. Nease and Dr. Deal help patients reduce the appearance of wrinkles daily. Our practice is a leader in the Chattanooga and North Georgia area for ALL injectables and laser treatments and we offer a wide array of injectables, including Botox®, Restylane®, Dysport®, Perlane®, Juvederm® and Radiesse®. Our complimentary consultations offer a way for patients to talk to the surgeon about his/her goals and then allows physician to make recommendations that meets those goals.

Although injectables are growing, so are minimally invasive surgical techniques such as skin resurfacing. Southern Surgical Arts uses the Affirm CO2 and the Sciton Profractional lasers to improve skin texture, stimulate collagen and help eliminate sun damage. Carey Nease, MD pioneered the Laser Face Lift, which combines the Affirm CO2, Smart Liposuction to the neck and jowls and often injectables to give an overall improved results. Dr. Nease said about the Laser Facelift, "It is a quick, one-hour procedure with down time of only 3-5 days and very little pain, both during and after the procedure."

With offices in Chattanooga and Calhoun, Southern Surgical Arts offers the Chattanooga and North Georgia markets two convenient ways to pop in and out of our office with little time needed on the patient's behalf.

Liquid Face Lift at Southern Surgical Arts

Posted by Southern Surgical Arts on Mar 24, 2011 9:19:00 AM
The Liquid Face Lift has received lots of media attention in the past year. The coined term, "Liquid Face Lift" is just a way to describe using fillers and other injectables to provide a patient with temporary facial rejuvenation and is a great solution for the patient who is seeking rejuvenation but is not quite ready for a Face Lift.  Many patients seek minimal downtime when considering any cosmetic procedures. Facial filler and injectables are good options for those who consider this an important factor in their decision-making process.  "A Liquid Face Lift is a procedure that can be done in the office in about 30 minutes and can make you look more youthful, refreshed and up to 5 years younger with essentially no down time.  Our patients see instant results and are happy that they have this alternative to surgery," said Dr. Nease.

According to the Liquid Face Lift Association, the Lift uses,  "dermal fillers such as Juvederm® , Radiesse®, Sculptra® and Perlane®, as well as BOTOX®". And, something to consider when contemplating surgery is that a liquid face lift has benefits that can't be found with surgery, such as restoring natural facial contours and volume. A growing number of cosmetic surgeons are augmenting surgery with liquid face lift products to restore natural 3-dimensional contours to the face. Also, a liquid face lift is typically more subtle than surgery. An increasing number of individuals are trying liquid facelift procedures before traditional face lift procedures. At Southern Surgical Arts, our surgeons use these products on a weekly basis to provide our patients with the desired "lift." We are one of the top providers of fillers in North Georgia and Chattanooga, according to Allergan Consulting, which distributes Botox®, Juverderm® and Latisse®.
