Q: My husband is so unhappy with the appearance of his jawline because he feels like his chin goes straight into his neck. He doesn’t even like to be in family photos anymore. Are there any options for someone who is unhappy with the shape of his/her chin and jaw line?

For as many celebrities who are famous for beautifully-full, “bee-stung” lips, there seem to be just as many with “trout pout”—casualties of lip augmentation gone wrong. Actresses like Angelina Jolie, Eva Mendes and Scarlett Johansson have helped to popularize the beauty trend that’s showing no signs of fading. Full lips are often seen as an indication of youth as they are associated with a higher volume of collagen, which tends to lessen as we age. But unfortunately, bad lip procedures seem to be going strong as well. Below are some “dos” and “don’ts” to help you get the most beautiful smile possible

Chin Augmentations on the Rise in Chattanooga
Posted by Southern Surgical Arts on Apr 30, 2012 6:01:00 PM
According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the number of chin implants grew 71% last year to 20,680. The largest increase was in patients 40 and older and included both men and women. "I've performed more chin augmentations in the past two years than ever before," said Dr. Carey Nease, a triple board-certified cosmetic and facial plastic surgeon from Chattanooga.
"A well defined chin helps give balance to the face," said Nease. At Southern Surgical Arts we perform chin augmentation, using implants to enhance one's profile. Research also suggest that strong jawlines help move up the corporate ladder.
A New York plastic surgeon, Darrick Antell, who presented highly anecdotal evidence in 2007 to World Congress on Liposuction Surgery and Advances in Cosmetic Surgery in Dubai. Antell drew a line from the nose tip to the chin on photos of 42 CEOs from 2005's top 50 Fortune 500 companies. Some 90% showed nonreceding-to-prominent chins, vs. 40% of the U.S. population. People equate such jawlines with confidence and character, says Antell. When it's time to pick a top manager, the one with the Superman jaw gets the job.

New Permanent Lip Augmentation at Southern Surgical Arts
Posted by Southern Surgical Arts on Sep 5, 2010 9:35:00 AM
We recently had a patient who was interested in having fuller, more noticeable lips. She has had fillers, such as Juvederm, in the past. She liked her results with the filler, but it only lasted about a year. She wanted something permanent, something she wouldn't have to come back and have redone down the road. She asked if we had something to accomplish her goal. And guess what......we did.
Dr. Nease recommended lip augmentation with a new, state-of-the-art silicone lip implant. It is a straightforward procedure and can be done using local and light sedation. The implant is made of high grade silicone and is designed to last. Once placed, that's it. No more yearly trips to have your lips reinjected.
The patient had the implant placed. At her one week followup visit she was thrilled with her new look. She still had some minimal swelling, but the overall look was subtle but very nice. ~ Dr. Gardner
