Dr. Nease interviewed on USA Today front page article about Cosmetic and Plastic Surgeons

Posted by Southern Surgical Arts on Sep 14, 2011 9:01:00 AM
I was surprised to read this article today on the front page of USA Today after being interviewed several months ago by the primary reporter. I was initially excited to give my thoughts and opinions about cosmetic surgery training in the United States and expected an article with two sides but fair and balanced.  Unfortunately, there are many problems with the reporting and inaccuracies portrayed as truth. The single quote from me was pulled from about a 45 minute interview, which typically ends up helping the motive of the reporter and does little to nothing to accurately represent the speaker's views. Interesting topic but the article ends up being unhelpful to the general public, and possibly even harmful because choosing any surgeon, medical doctor, or any professional for that matter based on the initials behind his name NEVER guarantees that the work he/she will do for you will turn out well.  You would not hire a painter just because he is a member of a specific painting organization or club, would you?  No, you would check out his work, ask friends for a referral and do your research.  Then you make a decision based on what you've gathered.  This "unbiased" article is clearly being promoted by a single group, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), and the reporter is aiding their cause.

Q&A: What Type of Bra Should I Wear After My Breast Augmentation/Lift?

Posted by Southern Surgical Arts on Jul 26, 2011 9:06:00 AM
bra.gifQuestion: I've heard from friends that it's best to wear a sports bra 24/7 after any breast surgery, but my info pack said specifically not a sports bra. What type of bra should I be wearing after I heal?

Answer: After your procedure it is extremely important to wear your individually recommended post operative garment, bra, and/or wrap. This WILL affect the final aesthetic outcome of your breast. The single most important factor in post operative bra’s is that they are supportive! This means a bra that lifts the breast and holds it very high! This should be done for 24 hrs a day for 8 weeks (unless instructed otherwise) and then during the day for 4 more months. Bra’s that only push breast together or smash breast in like a sports bra don’t support the breast at all unless they also lift well. In essence your bra strap should be very tight to pull your breast upward. For this reason we also recommend a wide shoulder strap bra as well as a wide strap at the bottom without an underwire. Only if the implants appear not to be dropping after several weeks will we change our instructions for you. We may also recommend a wrap or strap for particular situations so please understand your instructions regarding this very well.

Brides Seek Cosmetic Surgery Before Wedding

Posted by Southern Surgical Arts on Mar 16, 2011 9:19:00 AM
We recently attended Formal Affair in Chattanooga, Tennessee and had an influx of soon-to-be brides requesting information on fillers and surgical procedures. Brides are increasingly turning to cosmetic surgery to get ready for their big day! We primarily see brides seeking Breast Augmentation, Smart Liposuction, fillers and other injectables such as Botox®. We also see patients requesting our laser technology, such as laser resurfacing, laser hair removal, treatment for acne and cellulite reduction. A Cosmetic Surgeon from California is seeing the same trend in cosmetic surgery and noted it in an article recently published.

Brides should consider the timing of their procedures. In fact, patients need about six months to see the final result of their surgical procedure. Further, Dr. Chad Deal notes that "patients getting married should remember to give themselves 2-4 weeks before a wedding for injectables and fillers and no less than three months for most surgical procedures."

Patients should always research the surgeon's education, training, experience and proven clinical competence. At Southern Surgical Arts, our surgeons are Fellowship-Trained Cosmetic Surgeons and Dr. Carey Nease is Board-Certified by the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery. We also encourage you to take a look at our Before and After Gallery and find how many women have discovered the art of beauty through cosmetic surgery.
