There are few things more beautiful than a pregnant woman. Moms-to-be enjoy glowing skin, thicker hair and fuller, more voluptuous figures—as well as the unique thrill that comes from feeling a new life ‘under construction.’
But once all their bundles of joy have arrived, many women find themselves longing for their pre-baby bodies.
Excess and loosened skin combined with a little extra ‘jiggle’ around the middle can make it difficult to fit back into your clothes, even for moms who exercise on a regular basis. Stretch marks may be more noticeable and breasts frequently lose volume and begin to sag when breastfeeding is over. Additionally, permanent vaginal changes may come as a surprise.
There are a variety of cosmetic procedures that can help moms regain more youthful figures along with improving their body confidence.
The Mommy Makeover, a combination of several cosmetic procedures, is becoming increasingly popular in helping women restore their bodies to pre-pregnancy shape. These procedures include Breast Lift and Augmentation, Tummy Tuck, Liposuction and Smart-Lipo, Brazilian Butt Lift, and Labiaplasty.
For moms who want to regain the ‘perkiness’ of their before-baby breasts, a Breast Augmentation or Breast Lift may be the answer. If additional fullness is desired, a breast augmentation –a procedure in which implants are used to alter the size and shape of the breasts—may be the procedure for you. Breast lift surgery, also known as mastopexy, removes excess skin and tightens the underlying tissue to improve the contours of the breast without increasing the size. Additionally, augmentation can be combined with a lift to help restore the breasts to a fuller, more youthful appearance.
Many women are dissatisfied with the look of their abdomen because of loose skin, excess fat or because the muscles have been weakened. A Tummy Tuck is one of the most popular procedures for these moms. During a tummy tuck, also known as abdominoplasty, surgeons remove excess fat and skin, leaving a firmer profile. If necessary they can tighten weakened abdominal muscles to reduce an unwanted bulge. This surgery can also eliminate or improve the look of some stretch marks, depending on their location.
If moms are having trouble with excess fat around the waist (love handles) or thighs, both traditional Liposuction and Smart-Lipo, a laser-assisted sculpting technique, are worth investigating.
Fat from these areas can be transferred to the buttocks to create a more rounded look, in a procedure called a Brazilian Butt Lift. Fat may also be relocated to the face or labia to promote a youthful, rejuvenated look.
Changes to the vaginal area following childbirth may come as an unwelcome surprise to some women, and they may be uncomfortable talking about their dissatisfaction or even unaware that there is a solution. During pregnancy, the labia swell and stretch due to increased blood volume and pressure from the developing child. The birth process itself creates even more pressure—sometimes stretching and pushing the skin past the limits of elasticity. In these cases, altering the area via a Labiaplasty is recommended. This is a relatively simple procedure that typically involves little pain and short-term swelling.
