10 Reasons to Love Laser Hair Reduction

10 Reasons to Love Laser Hair Reduction

womanchairLaser hair reduction has been around for many years now, and continues to be one of the most popular minimally-invasive cosmetic procedures available (in the top five during 2013 and 2014). Our patients at Southern Surgical Arts certainly love it! Below, find 10 reasons you’ll love laser hair reduction, too:

  1. We’ve got the latest technology. Southern Surgical Arts has two types of lasers so that we can customize your treatment as precisely as possible for your desired results and skin tone—even darker skin tones can benefit from hair reduction with no pigment loss.

  2. No shaving bumps! Shaving is notorious for creating irritated skin and ingrown hairs. These bumps are not only unsightly, they can be tender and inflamed. Laser hair reduction does not cause bumps or ingrown hairs.

  3. No stubble. If and when hair grows back in a lasered area, it is typically finer and thinner.

  4. It’s quick. Depending on the area being treated, you can be in and out during your lunch break. An area the size of the average armpit takes less than 2 minutes, whereas an upper lip can be done as quickly as 30 seconds. Even a full back can be done in less than half an hour.

  5. Discomfort is minimal. And, compared to waxing, it’s a LOT more comfortable.  Some of our patients describe it as a sensation of a rubber band snapping  against the skin.

  6. No hyperpigmentation. After several sessions of waxing, it is not unusual to experience  darkening of the skin. This is less than desirable on high-profile places such as the eyebrows or the upper lip. No skin discoloration results from laser hair reduction.

  7. Laser hair reduction can be performed just about anywhere hair can grow. As long as the hair is black or brown, laser hair reduction can be performed anywhere except underneath the eyebrows.

  8. You do not have to grow out your hair for laser to be effective. Unlike with waxing and shaving, hair does not have to be visible for a treatment to be effective. Hair has to be shaved before the treatment.

  9. No more five o’clock shadow. Laser hair reduction works equally well for men and women, and many men enjoy the reduced (or eliminated) look of five o’clock shadow after shaving. Some fair-skinned women also experience a shadow even immediately after shaving, particularly under the arms. After several treatments, you may be permanently shadow-free.

  10. Results are long-lasting! Although no one can guarantee your results will be permanent, many of our patients find that they remain hair-free even years later. Sometimes you will need some follow-up maintenance treatments as time passes, but you will still be dedicating significantly less time to hair ridding yourself of hair than with any other option (not to mention, the savings on razor blades or waxing strips!)

To catch all hair in the growth cycle, laser hair reduction generally takes between six to eight treatments, spaced four to eight weeks apart for maximal results. Additional “touch-ups” may be needed to catch stray hairs.
